Starstim/NIRS is the most modern wireless solution for brain stimulation and imaging.

Combine transcranial electrical stimulation (tES: tDCS, tACS, tRNS) and electroencephalography (EEG) with functional

near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) in one single headset.

Combined transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) and electroencephalography (EEG) features are perfectly integratable with functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Such an integration allows for portable and wireless

transcranial electrical stimulation experiments concurrently monitored by two versatile brain monitoring techniques.

In cooperation, Artinis, Neuroelectrics and Silverline Research, present the most advanced and convenient solution for such integration - Starstim fNIRS. Silverline Research integrates a chosen Starstim system with a chosen Artinis fNIRS

system (Brite or Octamon) into one single headcap.

The Starstim fNIRS package includes Neuroelectrics® StarStim (tES and EEG) and Artinis Brite / OctaMon, both non-invasive and wearable technologies. It allows clinicians and researchers to measure resting-state and task-related prefrontal cortical activity (EEG) and/or hemodynamics (fNIRS) before, during and after transcranial electrical

stimulation in real-world settings.

In addition to the equipment provided, Silverline Research offers an add-on software called OptEStim which allows real-time fNIRS-EEG monitoring and analysis as well as fNIRS-EEG-driven closed-loop control of tES parameters. Silverline Research expertise can also provide specialized online or on-site training (1-5 days) to integrate tES with neuroimaging (EEG and fNIRS) through every step as well as other neurophysiological techniques (TMS, fMRI) and applications (cognition, motor control, sports and virtual reality), according to your research or clinical needs.

OptEStim software

OptEStim is add-on software compatible with the Starstim NIC2 and Brite/Octamon Oxysoft software, which offers advanced software-level capabilities for brain-state determination on an easy-to-use graphical user interface that allows real-time monitoring and analysis of EEG and fNIRS metrics using the streaming feature (e.g. EEG-Alpha peak, COG and fNIRS-O2Hbmean), including proprietary algorithms to determine heart rate (HR) and variability (HRV) from

fNIRS signals.

This OptEStim software solution offers the simplest and quickest way to get started on leading advanced brain state monitoring and closed-loop experiments without the demanding software development and training times. Therefore enabling faster tES protocol development and pilot testing of protocols for further research and clinical projects. Bespoke closed-loop programs can be developed for your specific research needs.
